A trial scheme in Scotland sees candid cameras cut angry rants from motorist.CCTV equipment which has been issued out to parking attendants in Perth and Kinross has directly stopped the verbal abuse being dished out to them by disgruntled motorists in the area. The 16 miniature cameras were introduced by Perth and Kinross Council in March in an attempt to try and cut down on abuse and to address complaints from members of the public.

Official violence and aggression reports lodged by parking attendants have gone down from two or three reported instances a week to only one in the last two months. The CCTV cameras are worn attached to ear pieces, which clip over an attendant’s ear, giving an eye-level view and are also directly linked to a tiny portable video recorder. Footage can also be used as part of court proceedings.

A spokesperson for the council was quoted as saying “Instances of verbal abuse, which were quite prevalent, have almost ceased” and that “the cameras have also reduced the number of contested tickets.”
